Royal Media Services is the largest media house in Kenya with 3 TV stations (Citizentv, InooroTV & RamogiTV),
14 radio stations, twelve of which are vernacular to cater to the diverse cultures in the region and a Video on Demands platform
(Viusasa).
With the introduction of additional TV channels such as Citizen Extra and Ramogi TV, additional channel requirements on the old microwave
links was not possible on the old set-up which required a major upgrade in replacing the Microwave Encoders, modulators and
receivers from SD to HD which would have been a very expensive upgrade.
Jamiro Broadcast was able to propose, design and install a Multichannel HD Video Contribution system which was deployed in Video
contribution from RMS broadcast facility to Head-ends ( ADN and SIGNET) for the three TV Channels: Citizen TV, Inooro TV and Ramogi TV
and also helped in Ramogi TV remote Studio in Kisumu contribution link to HQ.
Analog Microwave links have been the primary TV contribution means for Citizen and Inooro TV channels to DTT head-ends for the last 6 years.
ADN being the anchor DTT service for RMS, Microwave link was established by erecting a 21 meters mast at the broadcasting Facility roof top
to host the transmitting antenna and the receiving antenna was set up at ADN, DTT site at Limuru, 30 Km away from the broadcasting facility.
The Streaming Encoders housed at the HQ were able to provide Multicast streams which were used in Web streaming with full HD resolution and
the Decoders housed at the DTT centers could automatically down-convert the stream to conform with the platform requirements.
All the connections were established on the public network without any special link requirements for video contribution.
The Encoders support UDP, HTTP, RTMP, HLS, SRT and RTSP Streaming protocols which gave the customer a wide range of choice of application
for both local and public networks.
The customer is now able to control and manage all the Encoders and Decoders from the HQ by having Sophos Firewall in all the sites and
hence can protect the stream and monitor the bandwidth requirements provided by the ISP. The project was carried out between January and
March 2022 which included installation and testing before all the channels went LIVE in April.
“Jamiro Broadcast has continuously deployed design thinking in the system integration to provide innovative solutions which significantly
add value to most business value chain in short, medium and long-term business goals” Says Nyaga- Technical Director.
