NRG Radio has continued shaping the future of entertainment by connecting consumers with high-quality and personalized content via Internet, Mobile, Film, Sound, Print and Cross-Media in all forms of distribution. This is after being the 1st station in Africa to embrace virtualization and visualization in FM Broadcast. System upgrade was inevitable after NRG scaled up its operations and needed more space to accommodate the new studios which was not possible with the current space. JamiroBroadcast was commissioned in migrating the entire broadcast infrastructure to a highly prestigious Le’MacTower in Westlands, Nairobi.
The migration process involved:
1.Establishing new Digital STL links from the new studio facility to the FM transmission Sites at Limuru, 30 Kms away and MUA hills, 50 Kms Away.
2.Three Studio Equipment installation and integration on the newly built studios at Le’Mac Towers.
3.New studio facility planning and design incorporating a new design in studio wiring connection for ST 2110-30 -Audio transport required for AES67 and ST 2110-20 -Uncompressed video transport.
4.CAR Design for a centralized control and connection for all the 3 studios.
The entire migration process lasted for 5 weeks including establishment for the new infrastructure and decommissioning the old facility. The new studio design incorporated a minimalistic approach for a self-operated studios whilst having all the equipment centrally housed in the Central Apparatus Room (CAR) and only the desk and couches sitting in the studios. Each program from every station; NRG, Choice and FunX was processed independently for Audio program and RDS information without any compression with a an MPX signal from studio to our own “FM Digital STL to the transmitters, through TCP/IP, wireless network.“JamiroBroadcast is proud to be the leading system integrators in development, planning and realisation of complex systems and products for broadcast and media in Africa” says Benson Nyaga, Technical Director-Jamiro Broadcast.
